Renovation, Repair & Painting Rule Certified Renovator

PictureEPA Lead Safety for Renovation, Repair and Painting Manual

The Lead Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) Rule establishes requirements for firms and individuals performing renovations, and affects contractors, property managers and others who disturb painted surfaces. It applies to work in houses, apartments and child-occupied facilities (such as schools and child care centers) built before 1978. It includes pre-renovation education requirements as well as training, firm certification, and work practice requirements. This rule is established by both the EPA and the State of Kansas.

In general, any activity that disturbs paint in pre-1978 housing and child-occupied facilities is covered, including:
Remodeling and repair/maintenance;
  • Electrical work;
  • Plumbing;
  • Painting preparation;
  • Carpentry; and
  • Window replacement.
BEC Environmental Group is an accredited trainer for both the State of Kansas and the EPA for both RRP Initial (8-hour) and RRP Refresher (4-Hour) training courses. Our 8-hour training course is approved by both Kansas and the EPA concentrates on procedures for minimizing lead dust generation and soil contamination during maintenance, renovation and remodeling activities as defined by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The training consists of 8 modules and hands-on training in these procedures.
A certificate of attendance will be issued at the end of this training that acts as your license in Missouri (an EPA administered state).  The State of Kansas also requires licensing with the State and that form is filled out in class and sent to the State by BEC to assure that your training with us properly licenses you in Kansas.
Firm licensing is also required by both the EPA and Kansas and that procedure is covered in class. The Training Fee for this 8 hour class only covers the individual license. Both Kansas and EPA have additional fees to become a Licensed Renovation Firm that are the responsibility of the Renovation Firm.

4-Hour Refresher classes are also offered in accordance with EPA and State of Kansas Rules.

RRP Initial 8-Hour Training Fee: $195.00
RRP Refresher 4-Hour Training Fee: $135.00

In addition to designated 4-hour Refresher classes, if you have an unexpired RRP Certificate, we will use that as a "discount coupon" in an 8-hour class if you need to attend based on your schedule. A copy of your unexpired certificate must be submitted to receive the discounted price.

On-site training may be performed at your location. Please contact Debora at deb@becenv.com for more information regarding class size and fees for out-of-town training. We're always happy to discuss coming to you!
